- Hello everyone,
-
- some days ago I posted a question regarding the US-made ATLAS 310 short
- wave rig. It seems that this rig, after 1 1/2 years of advertizing
- has not been delivered. So I wonder if someone has got it or heard it
- on the air.

- NMN sounds like either a navy or ship-to-shore phone company station asking
- is anyone has traffic (qru?) There's tons of 'em out there.

- Hi Stan, do you still use a slide rule? What if the battery on your
- calculator runs down? If everyone used machine generated Morse code,
- the "Sucky Fist Syndrome" would disappear. I personally use a very
- expensive straight key but when old age takes away my ability to send
- good straight key code, I will simply switch to a machine and keep going
- strong. If my battery dies and it's an emergency, I'm sure I could manage
- 5 wpm with a couple of wires.
-
- If you don't test for CW reception, a lot of people won't be able to receive
- CW intelligibly. If you don't test for CW transmission, a lot of people won't
- be able to transmit CW intelligibly.
-
- I haven't seen anyone mention that SuperMorse will send and receive CW
- through the serial port on the PC. It's all documented in the SuperMorse
- manual. People with SuperMorse could check their CW sending ability by
- tying a straight key into their PC. They can also key their HF transmitter
- from their PC keyboard using SuperMorse.

- : I'd venture to say that there is a huge difference between CW and MCW...
- : I don't think there'd be any reason that one couldn't send morse code on
- : CB, as long as the emission mode was still AM or SSB. More than likely,
- : sending actual CW and sending morse code on AM are two different things.
- : For example, in the 2 meter band, you may only send CW between 144.0 -
- : 144.1 MHz. I've seen people tune their Radio Shack HT's to 144.005MHz
- : and send their callsign in morse code with touch tones, not realizing
- : that it's not the same thing. FM takes up 15kHz (I believe) of band
- : space. The whole idea of only allowing CW in the lower portion of 2
- : meters was to reserve that portion of the band for small bandwidth
- : signals. Keying up your FM HT and sending code with the touch tones
- : defeats the whole purpose.
-
- : I know I've rambled on endlessly over something I could have said in one
- : sentence, but do you see what I'm saying? If CW is indeed not allowed on
- : CB, I'm sure there's no rule against sending morse code with a tone
- : generator on CB, as long as the mode of emission is still AM or SSB.
-
- I admit I haven't looked it up yet, but I'm positive that, except for
- paging tones, only A3E and J3E *voice* are allowed on CB. What you're
- talking about is either A2A or, on sideband, J2A, which comes out
- looking much like good ol' A1A. It's not legally "still AM or SSB" -
- within the meaning of Part 95, anyway.
-
- The restiction on CB has less to do with bandwidth than with the basis
- and purpose of CB. While I wouldn't oppose a petition for rulemaking
- to allow MCW practice on CB, the FCC would probably deny it on the
- ground that there are so many other sources for on- and off-air CW
- practice already.
